| Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams Review (Xbox version) Graphics : 9.7/10 Gameplay : 8.6/10 Music : 10/10 Story : 9.3/10 Overall : 9.6/10 I remember when I first got my Xbox, and the reason I wanted the Xbox in the first place. I wanted the Xbox for one game only and that was, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. I knew that the whole game would be just like the PS2 version but feelings came along with that. Knowing that there was a sub scenario as you can play as Maria, Born from a Wish. Everything is still in this game, the main story, Letter from Silent Heaven which you control, James Sunderland. Now that's talk more about the game. |
| I have to say that the graphics in SH2: RD is really good. Seeing that its on the Xbox you should have a good feeling that the graphics have to be sharp, clear and bright. Everything around you looks so real. Character's face, body, and movement are great. When you turn off Noise Effect filter, just look at it all. The graphics look so good on the Xbox. There could have been a little touch more to make them better and sharper, but overall, graphics are excellent on the Xbox. Gameplay is ok, but if your use to the PS2 controls, it may take sometime getting use to. I was using the regular Xbox controller and it didn't take long to get use to what buttons did what. Everything runs smoothly on the game. Framerate is good, no slowdowns. It's just a straight port really of the PS2 version, only having the Born from a Wish in which you play as Maria. As of before, you can set the difficulty level. Set the difficulty settings for the AI and puzzles. The atmosphere of the game is excellent. Konami has always been good with all SH games to make the atmosphere big and in a way, scary if it gets to you. As I say, there is always something about the way they make the town that makes me coming back for more. Others get tired of the same old town called, Silent Hill, and that it just gets old. But I believe that if Konami can continue to make different areas of the town and all new ideas, this series will live on for a long while from now. But if you prefer using the PS2 controller, just give it time and you should be use to the Xbox controller. Also you can try the Xbox Controller S that looks a lot like the PS2 controller. Yes, the music gets to me. Since playing Silent Hill on the Playstation, the music changes but keeps going very well. You got the strings, you got the piano, well.. you have it all! Akira Yamaoka has always been the best when it comes to video game music. Every note in his music is what makes this series as strong as it's becoming. The sounds of the monsters in the game, the moments were the music slowly begins to get louder, it just tops it all. I thanks Akira Yamaoka so much for what he has done with the music in the series. He has created some of the best music I've ever heard. There is times where when I'm down or bored, I just put some SH music on and relax. The Xbox has very good sound output, very clear and if you have a good sound system, you'll enjoy every minute you get. Silent Hill has been one of those video games that makes you think. They give you some of what the story is about and then you have to make a conclusion as to what should happen or may happen. I've always enjoy that about SH, you beat the game, then think about what should actually happen to make a final end to the game. There will be others that may not even understand anything that is going on and that is what makes most not even get close to liking this series. If you just take the time, you'll get the results. This isn't one of those survival-horror games that has the answer right then. The story in every SH will touch you in a way that will never be forgotten. It will give you that feeling for more. Now, if you don't have an Xbox, you can get Restless Dreams for the PS2. Just look for Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits, its Restless Dreams for the PS2. But I would suggest you check out the Xbox version because I really enjoy the experience I got from playing it. Everything was excellent, graphics really caught my eye, just one great game that can't be looked away. I'm not like some gamers where I have to play it on one system. I don't care if I wasted my time playing it on the Xbox when I could have waited for it to come to the PS2. I'm a SH fan and that'll never die, I will play any SH game on any system because I love them all. So you can also, if you want, check out the game for both PS2 and Xbox, like I have . Finally, If you really enjoy the SH series, just want a game that makes you think (which is really fun with the SH games), or just looking for a good psychological survival-horror game. Look no further, check out Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. Ryan Hasseld - Silent Hill Forever |
